Goals:
- To make Fast ForWord Language
and Reading
programs accessible to more participants
- To increase parent involvement,
empowerment and mentoring for their child
- To provide parent education on
Brain Plasticity and the role it has in learning
Structure:
- The lab will be open 5 days per
week during an 8 week period, for a two hour block of time in the
afternoon/evening (4-6pm) for children to use the Fast ForWord programs
under parent supervision
- Fast ForWord Schedules will be
30, 45, 50, 90, or 100 minutes-at one low cost
- One staff member will be
assigned to supervise the lab and support parents
- Parents will be required to
participate in a 2-hour information class about brain plasticity and how
it applies to learning
- Parents will sign an agreement
to do Fast ForWord Language or Reading
programs on a set schedule
Fees:
- Insurance cannot be billed for
the program
- A $50 nonrefundable deposit
holds the place for a child and parent.
- Fees are based on a minimum fee
for lab use, staff time (including Jenny’s, front office and incidentals
such as reinforcers) $600 for 4 weeks, $150 each additional week
- Fees are payable by the week at
the beginning of each week
Participants:
- Parents may supervise only one
child. Each child has to have a
supervisor at least 18 years old.
No siblings can come who are not working on the program
- This offer is not appropriate
for those who are not struggling in school-other options exist for this
group including Brain Spark
Commitment:
- Parents commit to 5 days per
week of training for a minimum of 4 weeks
- Parents may choose to work
longer than 4 weeks to gain the maximum benefit for their child
- CCS agrees to provide the
space, the programs, weekly email report to parents and the lab
supervision
- Children agree to work and to
have fun
- Parents agree to turn off cell phones;
stay focused on their child only, use positive statements, and be on-time
- Parents will participate in
training including: Brain
Plasticity, Positive Encouragement, Program Elements and record keeping
